Roku apps loading slow? 9 quick fixes I try before blaming my Wi-Fi
Before blaming your Wi-Fi for slow Roku apps, try these 9 quick fixes to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

As a Roku enthusiast, I own several Roku TVs and devices, including soundbars and speakers. While I love the platform, I've encountered issues with slow-loading apps and lagging menus. Before reaching for my router, I try a few quick fixes to get my Roku back on track.
I know Roku devices can get bogged down by accumulating app data, glitchy apps, software updates, low memory, or simply not being restarted in a while. So, I try a system restart first. This fully reboots the device without deleting apps, sign-ins, or settings.
It's different from just turning the device off with a remote, as Roku has a quick-start mode that keeps parts of the system running in the background. If I don't see a Power menu, I go to Settings > System > System restart instead. If a streaming app or my Roku is completely frozen, I unplug my device or TV from power.
This shuts it down completely and forces the Roku to go into a full power cycle. When apps take too long to respond, I clear any built-up cache. Roku stores temporary data to make apps load faster, but too much cache can create system clutter that slows things down.
I use a remote shortcut to force a soft reset and clear cache. You can do this from the Roku app's remote or your physical remote. I also manually check for software updates, as a pending update can include bug fixes, app compatibility changes, security fixes, and performance fixes.
If only one app is slow or glitchy, I remove and reinstall it to clear bad app data and force a fresh install. I also check if the app has an update option, as updating the app might resolve the issue. Additionally, I review my installed apps and delete any unused or unwanted ones.
Roku devices have limited storage and memory, and too many apps can bog down the system. If I've tried all the above fixes and still experience issues, I test my Roku's network connection under Settings > Network > Check connection. If the connection is weak or unsuccessful, I reset the network connection.
Only as a last resort do I factory reset my Roku, which wipes the device entirely and returns it to its factory settings. If none of these fixes work, it's time to unplug and reboot my router – or contact my ISP, if necessary.
