FCC Cracks Down on Companies Helping DJI Evade US Drone Ban
FCC fines eight companies $25,000 each for allegedly helping DJI circumvent US foreign drone ban

Last year, we told you about Xtra, the company that lets DJI sneak its popular cameras into the US, and Skyrover, a brand seemingly selling DJI drones in disguise. They're just two of the many firms DJI is suspected of starting to skirt the United States' foreign drone ban. But it appears the FCC is finally doing something about "DJI front companies," as watcher Konrad Iturbe dubbed them last year.
Today, the FCC is fining eight of them $25,000 each - and giving them until Monday, July 20th, just 10 calendar days, to answer the FCC's questions before the agency takes further action. Those companies include Cogito Tech, Fixaxo Technology, The FCC's move comes as the US government continues to scrutinize Chinese tech companies, particularly those involved in drone technology. DJI, a leading drone manufacturer, has faced increased scrutiny in recent years over concerns about data security and potential ties to the Chinese government.
The fines and potential further action by the FCC mark a new level of enforcement against companies attempting to circumvent US regulations. The FCC's actions are likely to have significant implications for the drone industry, particularly for companies looking to do business in the US. For DJI and other Chinese drone manufacturers, this could mean increased difficulty operating in the US market.
For US businesses and consumers, this could lead to greater security and transparency in the drone industry. However, the effectiveness of the FCC's actions in curbing the use of Chinese drones in the US remains to be seen, and questions about data security and surveillance capabilities of these drones persist.
