For years, AI product demos have promised that planning a trip would be a showcase for their capabilities. The idea is simple: tell the AI where you're going, and it will supposedly create a personalized itinerary, complete with travel options, activities, and local recommendations. However, my experiences with these demos have been underwhelming, only providing generic suggestions for the most obvious tourist attractions.
But my experience with Gemini Spark, Google's new always-on AI agent, was a different story. Spark's capabilities are hugely ambitious, and I was eager to see if it could deliver on the promises that have fallen flat in the past. I was blown away by its ability to provide a fully-fledged itinerary, tailored to my interests and preferences.
What impressed me most about Spark was its ability to go beyond the obvious suggestions. While other AI agents I've used have struggled to provide more than the most basic recommendations, Spark seemed to have a deeper understanding of the destination and its offerings. I must admit, though, that I also found Spark's capabilities to be a bit terrifying.
The level of personalization and insight it provided raised questions about the potential for AI to influence our choices and decisions. As I continued to explore Spark's capabilities, I began to appreciate the scope of its potential impact. Whether it will ultimately live up to its promise remains to be seen, but my initial experience was undeniably impressive.
The true test of Spark's capabilities will be in its real-world applications, and I'm eager to see how it evolves over time.
