Google Unveils Information Agents: Revolutionizing Search with AI
Google introduces 'information agents' in Search, allowing users to create and manage AI-powered agents that continuously monitor topics of interest and provide updates.

At the 2026 Google I/O keynote, the tech giant revealed a groundbreaking feature in Search: the ability to create, customize, and manage multiple AI agents. These agents are designed to continuously monitor topics of interest, providing users with ongoing updates without the need for repetitive searches. Unlike traditional search tools, which only respond when prompted, Google's information agents operate 24/7, synthesizing information from multiple sources, explaining why something matters, comparing perspectives, and providing actionable insights.
This new feature represents a significant evolution of Google Alerts, the notification service launched in 2003, but with a much more comprehensive and interactive approach. The possibilities for these information agents are vast. For example, stock market enthusiasts can create an agent focused on specific companies, share prices, or economic trends.
The agent can monitor market activity, track breaking news, summarize earnings reports, and alert users to major changes. Similarly, users can track flight prices, sports teams, live events, breaking news, housing or job market trends, and even weather or traffic updates. To utilize this feature, users simply need to open AI Mode in Search and enter a prompt, such as 'keep me updated on nearby movie tickets for 'The Mandalorian and Grogu'.' When relevant information becomes available, the Google app sends a push notification.
Users can also view their active tracked topics in their AI Mode history, where they can manage, refine, or turn off alerts. Information agents will be available this summer, initially rolling out to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the U.S., with plans for expansion to additional markets later. In addition to this feature, Google also introduced a major redesign of Search, including a reimagined 'intelligent search box,' the company's biggest change to Search in over 25 years.
The new interface supports longer, more conversational queries and features an AI-powered query suggestion system that helps users craft nuanced and context-aware searches.
