Greg Brockman Officially Takes Control of OpenAI’s Products in Latest Shake-Up
OpenAI reorganizes as Greg Brockman takes the reins of product strategy, merging ChatGPT and Codex into a unified experience.

In a significant shake-up, OpenAI has announced a major reorganization aimed at unifying its product offerings. As part of this effort, cofounder and president Greg Brockman will now lead the company’s product strategy, in addition to his work on AI infrastructure. This change, previously implemented on an interim basis, is now official.
Brockman outlined the company’s vision in a memo to staff, stating, “We’re consolidating our product efforts to execute with maximum focus toward the agentic future, to win across both consumer and enterprise.” He added that OpenAI’s products are naturally converging, leading to the decision to merge ChatGPT and Codex into one unified experience. OpenAI confirmed these changes to WIRED, highlighting the move to streamline its product teams. The reorganization involves folding ChatGPT, its AI coding agent Codex, and its developer-facing API into one core product team.
Codex, increasingly powering consumer and enterprise offerings, will enable these products to perform digital tasks autonomously on behalf of users. Two other OpenAI leaders are also taking on expanded roles: Thibault Sottiaux, head of Codex, will lead the core product and platform across consumer, enterprise, and developer surfaces, while Nick Turley, longtime head of ChatGPT, will focus on revamping enterprise products. These changes represent the latest evolution for OpenAI as it refocuses on key product areas, including ChatGPT, Codex, and its forthcoming “everything app.” This reorganization follows a series of executive changes announced last month, including the medical leave of CEO Fidji Simo.
OpenAI expects Simo’s return and notes that she worked closely with Brockman on these changes. The company faces increasing pressure from competitors, including Anthropic in coding domains and Google in consumer chatbots. By simplifying its product offerings, OpenAI leaders aim to position the company ahead of a potential IPO later this year.
This shake-up also follows the departure of several OpenAI executives last month, including Kevin Weil, Bill Peebles, and Srinivas Narayanan. As the situation continues to develop, OpenAI remains focused on its mission to advance AI capabilities while navigating the competitive landscape.
