Hisense Slashes Prices of RGB LED TV on Release Day
Hisense has aggressively cut the price of its UR9 RGB LED TV, with discounts of up to $2,000 on release day.

In a surprise move, Hisense has significantly reduced the price of its UR9 RGB LED TV, the first of its kind to hit the market this year. The 65-inch model is now available for $1,999, a substantial drop from its original price. The 75-inch and 85-inch models have also seen considerable price cuts, now priced at $2,999 and $3,999 respectively.
Unfortunately, a new price for the 100-inch model has not been announced. The price reductions, which range from $1,500 to $2,000 depending on the screen size, make the UR9 a more competitive option in the high-end TV market. When I reviewed the UR9, my primary concern was its price point.
At $3,500 for the 65-inch model, it was outpriced by both the LG G6 and Samsung S95H, flagship OLED TVs that outperform RGB LEDs. The sudden price drop comes as a welcome surprise to consumers who may have been eyeing the UR9 but were deterred by its initial cost. It also puts pressure on other manufacturers to reevaluate their pricing strategies.
Two days after my review was published, Samsung released pricing for its own high-end R95H RGB LED, which will likely be a direct competitor to the UR9. The move is a bold one for Hisense, as it attempts to gain a foothold in the premium TV market. By undercutting its competitors on price, the company may be able to attract customers who are looking for a high-end viewing experience without the hefty price tag.
It remains to be seen how other manufacturers will respond to Hisense's aggressive pricing strategy. One thing is certain, however: consumers stand to benefit from the increased competition in the high-end TV market.
