Jeff Bezos Is Funding a Wild Hunt for the Brain's 'Core Algorithm'
Billionaire Jeff Bezos is backing a neuro AI startup on a mission to crack the human brain's most elusive secrets.

Rob Williams, a veteran Amazon executive, has mastered the art of pitching to Jeff Bezos. His strategy? Write a press release as if the product has already been built.
Bezos would then give a thumbs up or down, and Williams would anxiously await the verdict. Williams had frequently employed this tactic while leading software products like Alexa as part of Amazon's "S-team" until his departure last fall. However, his pitch in December 2025 was different.
This time, he was collaborating with Thomas Reardon, a neuroscientist and serial startup founder, and approaching Bezos as an investor, not a boss. As Williams anxiously watched on Zoom, Bezos read the pitch from the comfort of his yacht. The press release introduced Flourish, a neuro AI company aiming to tackle two of the most daunting challenges facing AI today: power efficiency and continuous learning.
According to the release, Flourish is building Cortex AI, a synthetic intelligence system designed to match the computational capacity, learning efficiency, and power budget of the human brain. The ambitious project has piqued Bezos' interest, and his investment could potentially propel Flourish to the forefront of the neuro AI landscape. With Williams' experience in leading Amazon's AI efforts and Reardon's expertise in neuroscience, the partnership may hold the key to unlocking the brain's most elusive secrets.
As the quest for a more human-like AI continues, Flourish's Cortex AI project is set to push the boundaries of what is currently possible. With Bezos' backing, the startup may be one step closer to achieving its audacious goal.
