Partiful Introduces Ticket Payments on Its Platform
Partiful, a social events platform, announces its first major monetization plan: tickets that attendees can buy directly on the platform.

The party's over, and it's time to pay the piper. Partiful, the popular social events platform, has announced its first major monetization plan: tickets that attendees can buy directly on the platform. This move marks a significant shift for the company, which has been free to use since its inception in 2020.
For years, Partiful has been the go-to platform for planning parties, events, and gatherings of all kinds. Founded by Shreya Murthy and Joy Tao, both former Palantir employees, the service gained traction in the post-pandemic era, particularly in 2024 when it became the hub for invites to a Timothée Chalamet look-alike contest. Despite its popularity, Partiful has relied on $27 million in venture capital funding from investors like Andreessen Horowitz to stay afloat.
The new ticketing feature allows event hosts to handle ticket sales directly within the app, processing different ticket tiers, setting capacity limits, handling payments, and verifying ticket QR codes. In return, Partiful takes a cut of the sales, which hosts can either factor into pricing or pass on to buyers as a fee. According to Murthy, this move was made in response to a problem faced by hosts, not solely to monetize the platform.
"We built this not because we felt the need to monetize; we really built it in response to a problem that hosts were facing," Murthy says. "This is the first big monetization feature that we've had on the platform, and it won't be the last." The introduction of ticket payments seems to contradict Partiful's previous stance on monetization, but Murthy insists that the company's "core product is free, and always will be," with new features like tickets being optional. The addition of ticket payments marks a new era for Partiful, which has been free to use since its inception.
As the platform continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how users will respond to this new monetization strategy. One thing is certain, however: Partiful is growing up, and it's time to pay the piper.
